Dial up connections run slower when more people in your area are logged on, but this is not the case with cable.

Cable Internet service is more expensive, but in the long run it may save you money when you compare it to DSL. If you chose to get Internet phone through your cable Internet service, you are going to save money on your phone bill. In many cases, you are going to save a lot of money. Vonage and Time Warner Cable are just two of the companies that now offer Internet phone. They offer both free domestic long distance and the lowest price you can get for your other phone services. The difference you pay between cable and DSL will be far less than what you save if you get Internet phone.

When it comes to the question of reliability, cable Internet service will beat dial up in almost every case. You never have to wait to connect, you won’t be booted from the Internet, and your connection is almost always on. The one downfall is that with a lack of power, you have no service. However, unless your computer runs on battery power, this won’t be an issue.

For the very casual Internet user, cable Internet service might be a waste of money. However, if you access the Internet on most days, own a website or other online business venture, or make a living online, then cable Internet service maybe be just what you are looking for.
